The Dark Knight Rises

So I began with a post about movies I have seen thus far this summer and had planned to continue with a second post with movies I still wanted to see but had not yet.  Well that plan was side tracked by a little film called The Dark Knight Rises.  So I let the two screenings gestate a week and a half and now am ready to talk a bit about it with as few spoilers as possible for the few of you that have not seen the film yet.

Before I begin I feel I must address the proverbial elephant in the room.  There are twelve souls who only wanted to go out to enjoy a film that no doubt they had been awaiting, and those twelve will never see how The Dark Knight Rises ended or any other film ever again.  The fact that this premeditated act of evil now hangs forever over the families of those murdered, injured and those that escaped that now will never forget that July night that would forever change so many lives.  Peace be with them all and justice be served!

Now let us talk about the Batman.   I have always been a fanboy of DC comics and specifically Superman and Batman.  I can clearly remember the first time I saw the 1978 Superman film and believing that a man could fly.  I also remember being introduced the Batman in the Super Friends cartoon series of my youth.  Then in 1989 when the Tim Burton Batman film starring Michael Keaton was released I was hooked.  Those first four films go from dark (for the times) to more campy and ridiculous than the late 60’s television show.  Then several years passed and Christopher Nolan along with a great cast and crew rebooted the Batman franchise and introduced the world beyond the comics to The Dark Knight.
Jump forward to the final installment in the trilogy The Dark Knight Rises.  It is a perfect close to the series and it is not necessary to see the first two but is helpful beside the fact that they too are fantastic.  Most people see Batman as a comic book movie simply because it has a man in a cape when in actuality these films by Nolan are a cop action drama where the cop just happens to dress in a manner to put fear into the hearts of criminals.  The returning cast of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman are fantastic.  The additions of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Anne Hathaway as well as Tom Hardy simply take this film over the top.  Many speculated that the inclusion of multiple villain’s would be a detriment as it was for films such as Spider-man 3 or Batman & Robin (which is not to be compared to these Nolan films) but not in Nolan’s Gotham.

Michael Caine steals the film for me as Alfred Pennyworth as he gives both a heart breaking and yet uplifting performance.  I will admit now that in both screenings my eyes were far from dry as the third rolled and at the same time I was excited to see just what Nolan had in mind for the Dark Knights end.  The film opens just as it’s preceding film did with and introduction to the evil villain who will push the Batman to his limits and beyond.  Bane! That voice is now and forever unmistakable, will be imitated to no end and forever quotable.  Tom Hardy certainly proved that Bane is more than able to break the Batman and you will see that he does just that.  Seeing Batman battle Bane in the light of day was spectacular.   I really do not want to tell you much more as not to give away any plot points.  Just know this is a great film, if you like Batman or not this has something for everyone.  Go see The Dark Knight Rises, it is BatASS!!

Summer Movies 2012..PART I....What I have Seen

It again has been three months since I have made any sort of post Here Behind My Blog.  Mostly this is due to the fact that it would have been way to easy to hop on here and be negative.  So another hiatus was in order.  As such I am late getting my anticipated movies for the Summer of 2012 up so this will be a list of what I have seen thus far, what I want to see, what I missed seeing and maybe a few that I will not be seeing.

So far the movie I have enjoyed the most this summer has been The Avengers, not shocking I am sure especially if you know me.

The Avengers
With the Avengers Marvel finally made the ultimate comic book movie.  Great fun, great action and a the wit and humor one would expect from a Marvel book finally up on the silver screen.  We made a trip to New Orleans to see this in IMAX and it was well worth the trip.  A bonus was we were able to stop in Poplarville on the way home to see some great friends so all in all it made the experience a great one!

Prometheus
A movie that so many have complained about, and really that is the issue with having such high hopes for films when going in.  I for the most part read up and watch whatever I can to find out as much about a movie beforehand as I can.  I do avoid spoilers when I can but for the most part when I go into a movie it is with my mind rebooted and ready for new information.  More people should have done this for Prometheus.  I have overheard more long winded conversations about this movie than any other since Inception.  Though not a direct Prequel to Alien this is a great origin story for the Xenomorph.  I along with my friend Josh really enjoyed this movie and if you are up for a true sci-fi adventure you will as well.

That's My Boy
This was a movie I had no intentions of ever seeing.  I have not seen a good Adam Sandler film since Billy Madison maybe never have I seen a great one.   So after an afternoon meal and a couple of pitchers of beer with my best friend we decided to go see this movie as a total goof.  Worst case we would have fodder to riff on best case we would have a few laughs.  Well we had more than a few laughs, as this movie marked the return of Adam Sandler to raunchy gross out humor.  So if you are looking for some fun adult comedy with Vanilla Ice...This is the movie for you!

Men in Black 3
A fun yet underwhelming installment in the franchise.  Wait for a free dvd rental of this one.

The Amazing Spider-man
A movie I thought would be lost in the summer of The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises but I was sorely mistaken.  I would say this is the best Spider-man origin story but Spider-Man 2 still takes the cake for me.  We saw this in IMAX while in Panama City Beach.  Go figure another city with an IMAX but Mobile still does not have a theatrical IMAX.  This town sucks sometimes.

Later this week I will come back with Part II...What I want to See and or have missed so far...That will feature a certain Batman!!

Here Behind My Blog....Post One, Begin Again

Sitting in a big chair here behind my blog
In perfect isolation here behind my blog

So I took a step back and a break from blogging simply because it was just way to easy to sit down and blast away at things with a negative spin.  Which I really did not care to do, even with the blog being named Drunk Negativity and that also being the nom de plume I use over at MODMOBILIAN.COM  the true meaning of the name was to be satire but on occasions it became all too true be it published or not.   The adventure begins anew and even if it's a single sentence, a photo or a Larry King-esque ramble just know it will be slapping you in the brain as often as possible!

After sitting here for a couple of hours re imaging my blog, watching Mad Men on Netflix,  gazing at my wife it's time to hit the hay.  I bid you all a goodnight, good day a good whatever time of the day it may be where you are.  Just have a better one!

I leave you with this folks, check out the smile on the Hulk!!

Big Black Buns and a Dark Side!

Would you eat a big stack of beef between to black buns? Not a question one usually ask I know but if you are a Star Wars fan and just happen to be in France you just may get your chance to eat a Darth Burger or a Jedi Burger.

Check it out! French food giant Quick secured the rights to sell these burgers that look like something Jabba himself would chow down dozens of. Check these babies out. French Burgers that tie into the Episode 1 Release in 3D.

I can not wait to see what they do for Jedi…Ewok burgers with real fur and freash ground little people!

I leave you with this….a 1978 commercial for Burger Chef (do not think they existed down south) but it is one of the earliest kids Meal promotions for Star Wars!
